Nightjar accepts submissions on a rolling basis.

Writers must be 13–20 years old.

We are interested in any writing that can be classified as speculative: fantasy, sci-fi, dystopian, magical realism, slipstream, horror, post-apocalyptic, and the like. Mixing genres and hybrid forms are welcome. Read the magazine to see what we’re looking for.

We accept simultaneous submissions. However, please write to us immediately if your work has been selected elsewhere and you want to withdraw your piece.

We accept previously published work. However, you must include a statement that you own full copyright to the submitted work and have full right to submit for republication.

Following publication, you can publish your work elsewhere starting two months after we publish it. You own full copyright to your work and are free to reprint it. However, we request that you add the credit “previously published in Nightjar Magazine” when your work is reprinted.

We are especially interested in publishing the perspectives of people of color, queer people, and transgender and nonbinary people.

Please contact us with any questions.
